DealRoom makes it easy to get your due diligence process up and running whether you want to start from a pre-built template or bring in your own existing checklist.
Option 1: Start with a Pre-Built DealRoom Template
DealRoom offers several ready-to-use M&A templates, including:
Master Due Diligence Playbook
Buy-Side Due Diligence
Sell-Side Due Diligence
Post-Merger Integration (PMI) checklists
You can browse and download these from the Templates section in our Resource Library on the DealRoom website. Pick the one that best fits your workflow and apply it to your playbook room.
Option 2: Import Your Existing Diligence Template
If you already have a diligence checklist (for example, from Excel or another virtual data room), you can import it directly into DealRoom.
Step 1: Export Your Existing Room or Template
Open your source room or template.
Go to Settings (top right).
Select Room import/export from the left menu.
Click Export room structure.
This generates an Excel file containing your worklists, requests, and folder structure.
Step 2: Clean Up the Excel File
Open the exported Excel file.
Remove any tabs you don’t need (for example, folders or full diligence lists you’re not importing).
Keep only the relevant sheets, such as:
Diligence checklists
Integration trackers
Save the file.
Important formatting tips:
Dates must be in MM/DD/YYYY format
Request titles must be unique (no duplicates), or the import will fail
Step 3: Import into Your Playbook or Target Room
Open your target room.
Navigate to the Requests tab.
Click the three dots (⋮) next to New Request.
Select Import and upload your cleaned Excel file.
Your worklists and requests will load automatically.
Step 4: Organize and Set Permissions
Drag sublists under a parent list (for example, under Diligence Requests) to organize your structure.
Go to Permissions to control access.
Keep internal-only lists (such as pre-close or post-close plans) restricted to admins or internal users.
Once imported, your playbook is fully editable and ready to reuse across deals—saving time and keeping your diligence process consistent.
