Managing your deals efficiently is a crucial part of your workflow in DealRoom. You can easily import and export deal data to streamline your processes and keep your information up-to-date.

Note: Before you download the template, we recommend creating your pipeline phases and custom fields first as these will then show up on the template. To do this, see this article: How do I set up custom phases and fields in the Pipeline?

Importing Deals in the Pipeline

Navigate to the Pipeline from the left menu.
In the top right, click the button with the 3 dots.
Select the Import deals from excel option.

A pop-up window will appear. On the left side of the import button, find and click the "Download template" link.

The template will have default columns for "Title" and "Phase." Additional columns will represent custom fields that you've set up in your pipeline's Settings (e.g., Status, Description, Country Code, Size $, etc.). Copy and paste your data into these columns, ensuring proper formatting and adherence to the available options (for select or multi-select fields).

Note: The first row should not be edited as it corresponds to the custom field names/types. If you want to change these, edit your custom fields in the pipeline Settings in DealRoom and then download the template again with the changes.

This example has some demo custom fields created. You can completely customize these in your pipeline.

To import, go back to where you downloaded the template and click the "Choose file" button to upload your completed template.
Once ready, click the blue Import button.

Troubleshooting Tips

If you encounter issues with importing your excel file, the system should give you an error message with the location and reasoning for the error. Try to use these hints first to resolve any importing issues. If that doesn't work, here are some other tips for seamless importing:

Check Column Headers: Ensure that the first row in your imported data exactly matches the template or custom field titles you've created.
"Sheet 1 is not supported" Error: If you receive this error without additional details, try downloading the template example and then copy and paste all data from your existing file into this one. When imported, this should provide specific errors and their locations.
Date Format: Verify that dates are in the format "MM/DD/YYYY."
Casing: Make sure text casing (capitalization) matches your custom field settings.
Select and Multi-Select Fields: Confirm that all options for select and multi-select custom fields are specified in the DealRoom custom fields settings.

Note: The system does not accept duplicate data. If you have existing deal information and want to add more deals or update deal data, only list the new deal data in the Excel sheet for import.
