Pipeline Deal Cards Overview

Your pipeline is a critical tool for tracking the execution of your M&A strategy. From identifying initial deal targets to managing integration, the deal cards are at the heart of that pipeline. In this article, we’ll break down the key components of a deal card and show you how to update them to get the most out of the pipeline feature. The key components, include:
Phase
Deal Information
Notes
Emails
Phases
Tasks
Contacts
Attachments

Note: You must have pipeline admin access to manage and update the components of a deal card.

Phase

This section of the deal card indicates the deal's current phase. To update it, you can either drag and drop the deal in the pipeline view or open the deal card and click the phase text to select a new phase from the dropdown menu. See the phases section below for details on how to adjust the field types.

Deal Information

The Deal Information section stores all key deal details and can be customized using custom fields. Be thoughtful when setting it up, as it directly impacts how dynamic due dates function within your deal room requests.

You also have the ability to add new groups so you can organize fields to your preference. Watch the short video below for an overview.

Tip: The first four fields in your first group appear as preview fields on deal cards in board view. Create a group called Core Data to highlight the four key fields you want shown.

Notes

The Notes section is ideal for documenting key updates that occur throughout the life of the deal. This may include important milestones or summaries of logged calls, ensuring your team has easy access to relevant information. To add a note, simply type in the text field (see image below) and select the “add note” button to publish.

Emails

DealRoom offers an Outlook integration that can sync emails within your deal card. To learn more about the Outlook plugin, click here .

Phases

The phases track the entire life of your deal, from sourcing to integration. This section is fully customizable. To adjust it:

Go to the Settings tab

Select "General" in the upper navigation

Make changes in the Phase section.

Tasks

We recommend that a room be created once a deal has a letter of intent. In advance of that, the task section can be helpful to ensure that tasks in advance of LOI are on track. To create a task, click here to learn more.

Contacts

Similar to a CRM, this section can be helpful to keep track of the key people in the life of a deal. Adding a person here does not give them access to the deal card, it is simply a way for you and your team to keep track of key contacts. Reference the Adding a Contact to a Deal Card article for an overview.

Attachments

This feature is also useful before you open a deal room. Once the room is open, we recommend storing all sensitive files directly within the deal room for better security. To add an attachment, simply select the “upload” button and select from your desktop.
