Formatting Templates for Importing into DealRoom
Efficiently import your deal information into DealRoom with these easy-to-use templates, saving you time and enabling a quick setup within the system. There are three types of templates tailored to different needs:
Request List Template
Request List + Data Room Folder Structure Template
Pipeline Deals Template
Formatting a Request List Template
If you want to import an excel tracker without folder structure, follow these steps:
Step 1: Download the template
Inside the project room, navigate to the Requests tab at the top.
Click the button with the 3 dots at the top right.
Click the link labeled Download Template.
Step 2: Add your information
Open the template. See below screenshot for template example.
Input your information in rows 3+.
Rename the excel tab at the bottom labeled "List 1" to to your desired worklist name (i.e. Due Diligence, Integration, Staging, "Name of Target Company", etc.).
Duplicate the original tab for additional worklists.
Tip: Copy and paste your information into each column for a quick and easy import. In addition, if you have a long title, we suggest breaking it up by pasting most of the relevant information in the Description column.
Important Notes:
DO NOT change the first row. The system uses these for organizing information. It is not possible to add more columns to row 2.
Leave cells blank if the information is not available.
Use the Category column to create subcategories using " > ".
The system will not accept duplicate titles. It will only import new information.
Troubleshooting Tips
Make sure the first row matches exactly with the template
If the error is “Sheet 1 is not supported” and no other error is given: Try re-downloading the template example and then copying and pasting all the data from the existing file into this one. When imported, this should now give the exact errors and their location.
Make sure the dates are in this format (MM/DD/YYYY).
Make sure casing matches (capital/lowercase).
Formatting a Request List + Data Room Folder Structure Template
If you have an excel tracker and folder structure to import simultaneously, follow these steps:
Step 1: Download the template
Inside the project room, navigate to the Settings tab at the top right.
Select Room template from the left menu.
Click the link labeled Download Template Example.
Step 2: Add your information
Open the template. See below screenshot for template example.
Input your information.
The tab labeled "_Folders" is for your data room folder structure ( NOTE: Do not edit the title of this tab).
The tab labeled "Due Diligence" is for your worklist. Duplicate this tab for more worklists (You can edit the title of your worklist tabs).
If you need help formatting the worklist, see the above section Formatting a Request List.
Tip: The names of your folders in the "_Folders" tab should match the names of the categories in your worklists (i.e. Finance, HR, Legal, IT, etc). With an exact title, the system will be able to link the two locations, making it easier to upload documents to requests while simultaneously storing them in the matching folder in the data room.
