What is the difference between Pipeline and Room permissions?

Differences Between Pipeline and Room Permissions

DealRoom offers a distinct advantage by providing enhanced permissioning across its two core components: the Pipeline and the Rooms. This structure allows you to maintain strict control over who can access different stages of your M&A lifecycle.

Overview

Pipeline: This is your central hub for tracking active deals, prospects, and their stages in the M&A process. The Pipeline hosts information about target companies, facilitates team collaboration through notes and comments, and allows users to log emails, follow up on deal tasks, and manage their assigned deals.
Rooms: Once a deal progresses to the next stage, typically after a Letter of Intent (LOI) is signed, you can open a Room for due diligence. Rooms are equipped with project management tools, a virtual data room (VDR) for secure document storage, RAID logs (Findings), reports, granular permissions, and other features designed to streamline the diligence and integration processes.

Adding a user to a Room does not automatically grant them access to the Pipeline, and vice versa. Users need to be explicitly added to each component.

Note: Only Pipeline administrators can invite users to the Pipeline or Rooms.

Adding Users to the Pipeline

To grant a user access to the Pipeline, follow these steps:

Navigate to the Settings tab in the left menu.
Select Pipeline Access from the top menu.
Click the Invite Member button located at the top right corner.

Once invited, the user will have access to the Pipeline, and their visibility will be limited to the deals they have access to, according to their permission set.

Adding Users to the Rooms

As an Admin, there are two primary methods to add users to a Room:

1. Adding Users from the Room Itself

Open the Room where you'd like to add the user.
Navigate to the Permissions tab at the top.
Click the Add Member button.

Note: Adding users to a Room does not grant them access to the Pipeline. You need to invite them separately as outlined in the steps above.

2. Adding Users from the People Tab

Select the People tab from the left menu.
Click the blue New person button at the top right.
Enter their email and choose which room and group you'd like to add them too.

Tip: When adding a user via this method, you can also add them as an administrator to all active Rooms.

BONUS: Adding Yourself to a Room from the Pipeline

If you are an admin and want to add yourself to a Room from within the Pipeline:

Go to the Pipeline tab on the left menu.
Click on the Deal card corresponding to the Room you want to join.
In the Deal Card, click Open Room.

A pop-up window will appear. Use the dropdown menu to select the group you want to join within this Room.
Click the blue button that says Add Yourself to This Room.
